In a surprising move, Yum! Brands, the parent company of Pizza Hut, is considering selling its struggling pizza chain. However, the brand is facing stiff competition from other pizza giants like Papa Johns and Domino's Pizza, which continue to gain market share.

Domino's, for instance, reported a 6% increase in quarterly sales last month, partly attributed to promotional strategies. This success highlights the challenges Pizza Hut faces in staying competitive.

Mr. Turner, who recently took the helm at Yum!, acknowledged that Pizza Hut employees have been working tirelessly to address business and category challenges. However, the company has not yet decided on the next steps for the brand.

Beyond the pizza business, Yum! has been impacted by cautious consumer spending due to persistent inflation and a slowing labor market. This trend has affected the entire fast-food industry, with younger consumers, in particular, feeling the strain from unemployment and loan repayments, as noted by an executive at Chipotle.

In the UK, Pizza Hut is closing half of its restaurants as consumers there are turning away from the chain. It seems that Pizza Hut's market share has been gradually taken by its more agile and trendier competitors.
